All in aid of charity
Hilary and Julie Anne in our Highland Dress department helped fit out the Kilmarnock Fire Station team in their finest kilt outfits so the guys could look their best at the charity event at Ayr Racecourse on 2nd October.
400 lady guests, many of who had come dressed for the 1920’s Orient Express theme enjoyed some shopping lunch and afternoon tea then watched a brilliant fashion show. At the end of the evening all the guests learned how to perform the Charleston dance to the music of ‘Time of your Life’ Showband. The best part was that the guests raised a fantastic £6,000 which is up on last years total and all of it being fully donated to Cancer Research UK. This brings their total since they began in 2007 to an amazing £160,000.
An extra special well done has to go to Lorna Dempsey, the founder of Butterfly Events who tirelessly organises these events purely voluntarily, as well as working full time.
For more photos of the event and more details of forthcoming events, please visit Butterfly Events.
McCallum Bagpipes Newest Addition
Stuarts new best friend and it’s not Andy…
We have just taken delivery of our new Dugard 200HT/200MC slant bed, high precision CNC lathe.
Andy was delighted when the new machine arrived as it is going into his department but he soon came to realise that it actually just means more work for him. This gave a laugh to all the other guys in the factory.
The new machine will help us produce more practice chanters bagpipe chanters and help with the new range of acetyl bagpipes.

Busiest Week of the Year
Roll on the Christmas Holidays…..
Jim and Gavin are especially delighted that last week is over and by with. All hands were at the pumps as we successfully completed our orders for the busiest week of the year so far. Even on an average week we find ourselves very busy but last week was one of those crazy ones that come along 2 or 3 times a year when it’s even more manic than usual. The run up to Christmas is notoriously busy but it seems we have started even earlier this year.
The hemping and sanding fingers are still a bit raw as is Roberts voice from trying to get us all ‘organised’. Hopefully the fingers recover quicker than the voice…..only joking Robert.

This year’s Argyllshire Gathering Senior Piobaireachd was won by Iain Speirs of Edinburgh. This is the most prestigious event at the Gathering as it is restricted to former winners of the Highland Society of London’s Gold Medal. Iain’s winning tune was ‘Port Urlar’.
Iain was taught originally by Jack D. Crichton and by his grandfather, Jock Speirs, Pipe Major in the London Scottish and of the Johnnie Walkers Pipe Band and his father Tom Speirs, Inverness Gold Medal (1980) and Clasp winner (1983). He is currently taught by Donald MacPherson.
Winning this event guarantees the winner a place at the Glenfiddich Championship in October but Iain had already qualified by virtue of winning the overall championship at London last November.
Iain has been a long time player of McCallum chanters and we wish him all the best for the Glenfiddich this year.
